RBL Rules

The Retro Baseball League is an internet sim league which uses OOTP6 as its sim engine. This league was designed for the sole purpose of having fun, and give each of us the chance of using our wits to manage a big league baseball franchise which started in the 1977 season.

The Commish and League Execs: Maintain the week to week activities of the league, to ensure it runs smoothly. This includes the actual sims, updating the website, drafts, etc. All disputes will be handled by the Commish and all issues should be brought solely to the league office's attention and not league wide for resolution.

Owners: It is your responsibility as owners to act in a courteous and professional manner towards fellow owners. To be active throughout the season which includes submission of lineups, responding to trade offers, attending drafts or submitting lists, and participating in league votes.

Sim Dates: Sims will be done twice weekly, 15 days per sim. The sims will be run on Monday and Thursdays. Lines will be due by midnight on the prior day.

First SIM of season: All teams are obligated to submit lines for the first sim of each season.  Without just cause teams may be fined $2,500,000.  (updated Nov. 29, 2007)

Amateur Draft: At the end of each season, there will be a 5 round amateur draft which will be done in part by live, lists and computer drafting.

Trades: In order to complete a deal, the two owners must be involved in the posting of the deal on the message board on the completed trade forum. One will post the deal, and the other will confirm. The trade should be posted in the following format:

To Angels: SS John Doe

To: Orioles: MR Joe Smith and 3B Bob Barker

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Picks can be dealt but only under the following conditions:

1) Any pick can be dealt in the current year, but you have to keep at least 2 picks for the draft.

2) Picks 2 thru 5 can be dealt in the next year, but you must end up with 3 picks including the 1st rounder you can't move.

3) No other picks can be moved beyond the current and next season.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If for some reason the message board is down, the deal can be emailed by both parties to the commish to confirm the deal.

Trading newly signed free agents:

The rule of thumb surrounding FA signings, is recently signed FA's can be traded, but not until June / July of the current season. The rational behind this is to prevent any one owner with tons of cap room to go and sign a bunch of top free agents with the intention of dealing them for picks, top players, etc...we don't police trades, but allowing this type of behaviour would not be positive for the league..(updated Nov 29, 2007)

Free Agents: Free Agent offers are posted on the "Free Agent" forum.  Teams can start bidding on players immediately after the first SIM and throughout the season.  Teams may only sign one player per day.  When posting a free agent bid, please indicate your team name as well as the players name in the subject line as follows:

                                          Phillies claim OF Babe Ruth

Coaches and Scouts: Turned off.

Contract Extensions: You may offer contract extensions during the final year of a player's contract. These must be made prior to the end of the playoffs. After that date, any player in the last year of his contract will become a free agent at season's end.   There is no restrictions to what you may offer.  To start negotiations, post the extension(s) you would like to offer your player(s) in the "Contract Negotiations" forum.  Your offer should include the following information:

  1. Team name on subject line
  2. Player(s) name + salary amount + # years

Rosters: Rosters are limited to 25 players in the Majors, 50 players in AAA, 50 players in AA and 50 players in A. Players may only play positions for which they are qualified to play.  However, owners may elect to play any player at the firstbase position with the exception of pitchers.

Each owner is responsible for the weekly maintenance of their teams which includes minor leagues, disabled list and having players that can backfill injured players.

Offseason: There will be a short break which will be followed by a period of Free Agency (Rules to follow at a later date), Amateur draft and spring training.
