Lidge was overpowering all week long, going 1-0 with an ERA of 1.42. Along the way he struck out 19 in 12.2 innings. Opposing players hit .204 against Brad this season. While posting an ERA of 5.87 he went 5-6 in 20 starts, fanning 164 and walking 53 hitters. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Philip Hughes, one of Los Angeles' best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.29 while going 2-0. |
Sunday 7/14/2010: Hank Blalock hits for the cycle against Chicago (A) MINNESOTA - Minnesota's first baseman Hank Blalock accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Chicago (A), hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .291! A pitch from Andy Pratt in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 399 feet from home plate in right field. In the 5th inning he unloaded a triple off Juan Rincon. A single in the 7th off Todd Coffey accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 8th inning he belted a double off Chris Ray. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Hank scored 3 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He is hitting .296 this season, with 26 HR and 72 RBI. He's now the 108th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Monday 7/8/2010: Minnesota's Sizemore wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Minnesota's Grady Sizemore this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Adam Dunn from Los Angeles wins his 20th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Friday 7/5/2010: New York (A)'s Izturis out for the season NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s second baseman Cesar Izturis will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between New York (A) and New Orleans. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Izturis collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Medial Collateral Ligament. Izturis has hit 6 homeruns this year while batting .363. He adds 28 doubles, along with 52 runs scored. He's 6th in the American League in batting! |
Thursday 7/4/2010: Cole Hamels pitches 2-hit shutout against St. Louis ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' hitters were dominated by Pittsburgh's Cole Hamels. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. Hamels (8-3) struck out an astounding 15 and walked none, throwing 77 of 122 pitches for strikes. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Craig Monroe helped Hamels at the plate, he finished 2 for 4, hitting a homerun, scoring two runs and collecting 2 RBI. Pittsburgh improved its record to 43-35, scoring 6 runs on 8 hits. |
Monday 7/1/2010: Philadelphia's Lester named Pitcher of the Month The best month of June in the American League certainly had Detroit's right-hander J.d. Durbin, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 4-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 35.2 innings of work he allowed just 20 hits while striking out 30, compiling an ERA of just 1.51. His ERA of 2.76 helped him to a 7-2 record this year. He struck out 86 and walked 64 in 91.1 innings. Philadelphia's Jon Lester had a terrific June, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 1.69 helped him to a 4-1 record in June. He worked 42.2 innings, striking out 53 hitters while walking 13. This season Lester compiled an ERA of 2.26, going 11-2 in 17 starts. He fanned 129 while giving up 68 hits in 103.1 innings. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins! |

Sunday 6/23/2010: Dewayne Wise punishes Baltimore with five hits, cycle BALTIMORE - Dewayne Wise led Chicago (A) to a 15-7 win over Baltimore by squeezing five hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! In the 1st inning he belted a two-run double off Michael Bowden. His 2nd hit, off Michael Bowden in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. A single in the 5th off Michael Bowden accounted for his 3rd hit. A single in the 7th off Matt Garza accounted for his 4th hit. In the 7th inning he unloaded a three-run triple off Ben Kozlowski. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Dewayne scored 4 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .380. He's now the 107th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Tuesday 6/18/2010: Pittsburgh's Chris Stynes gets milestone hit NEW YORK (N) - Pittsburgh's second baseman Chris Stynes already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 8th inning was a double off Neil Weber. Along with his 2000 hits, Chris collected 192 homeruns and 957 RBI in 14 seasons. 'I still remember my first hit. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Castillo was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Achilles Tendon. His season features a batting average of .318 (55 hits in 173 AB), 9 doubles, 3 triples and 2 longballs. Tuesday 5/21/2010: Carolina's Millwood out for 5 weeks CAROLINA - Carolina's ace Kevin Millwood suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 3rd of the game against Atlanta he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Carolina wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Friday 5/17/2010: Mark Teixeira out for 5-6 weeks SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's first baseman Mark Teixeira suffered a serious injury when he was struck by a pitch from San Diego's Ryan Rupe. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Teixeira will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. Mark is hitting .236 this year, with 34 hits in 144 at bats. He has driven in 30 runs, slugging .583. |

Monday 4/29/2010: Alberto Callaspo nabs five hits against Texas KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's third baseman Alberto Callaspo once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Texas' pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Monday. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 359 feet, cleared the wall in right field. Number 4 in the 6th inning accounted for a RBI double. In the 7th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Greg Mullins. He collected singles in the 3rd inning and in the 4th (two RBIs). Alberto scored 5 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 31 hits in 100 at bats, resulting in a .310 batting average. Kansas City improved its record to 12-13, scoring 17 runs on 19 hits. |

Monday 4/22/2010: Nevada's Piedra wins Player of the Week award It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's centerfielder Aaron Rowand. In 18 at bats he hit .444 with 7 HR and 15 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Rowand has hit 8 taters this year while batting .271. He adds 4 doubles, along with 12 runs scored. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! The National League's best player of the week was Nevada's Jorge Piedra, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 21 at bats he hit .524 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Jorge has gone 27 for 63 (.429) this season, hitting 4 homeruns and driving in 19 runs. He has scored 18 runs on his own. He's 2nd in the National League in batting and 4th in RBI! |
Sunday 4/21/2010: Detroit's Aaron Rowand goes deep three times TORONTO - Detroit beat Toronto 16-2, but that was not the real story of the game. Aaron Rowand was, as he went deep three times. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 420 feet, cleared the wall in center field. His 2nd shot, off Yovani Gallardo in the 3rd inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in center field. His 3rd blast, a two-run homerun off Edwin Jackson in the 6th inning, landed an estimated 362 feet from home plate. He powered Philadelphia to a 9-2 win over Los Angeles by homering three times. Thursday 4/18/2010: Randall Simon ropes 2000th career hit BOSTON - Boston's first baseman Randall Simon already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. Tuesday 4/16/2010: Brandon Wood socks five hits for Cleveland TEXAS - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Cleveland's shortstop Brandon Wood after the 12-4 win over Texas. A pitch from Oscar Villarreal in the 3rd inning left his bat for a double. A pitch from John Patterson in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 366 feet from home plate in right field. In the 7th inning he belted a RBI double off John Patterson. Sunday 4/14/2010: Cleveland's Nick Markakis goes deep three times CLEVELAND - Nick Markakis was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Cleveland to a 15-4 win over Minnesota by homering three times. A pitch from Sean Gallagher in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 354 feet from home plate in right field. That one tied it at 1 runs apiece. In the 5th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Jesse Carlson. His 3rd shot, a solo homerun off Brian Tallet in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in right field. Nick got 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three runs and collecting 5 RBI. So far this season he is batting .306 with 3 homers and 12 RBI. |
Saturday 4/13/2010: Zack Duke out for 6 weeks MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's ace Zack Duke will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Cleveland where he left the field in the 7th inning. Duke was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Elbow Ligament. |
Monday 4/8/2010: Player of the Week honors go to Wise and Cabrera The American League's best player of the week was Chicago (A)'s Dewayne Wise, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. In 19 at bats he hit .474 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. Chicago (N)'s leftfielder Miguel Cabrera had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .423 and hit .375, while driving in 14 runs. |
Thursday 4/4/2010: Craig Monroe parks three against Carolina CAROLINA - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Pittsburgh's leftfielder Craig Monroe accomplished that feat in a 8-7 win over Carolina. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Zack Greinke. A pitch from Zack Greinke in the 6th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 447 feet from home plate in left field. His 3rd shot, a three-run homerun off Chad Orvella in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in left field. Craig stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, scoring three times with 7 RBI. |
Tuesday 4/2/2010: David Dellucci hits for the cycle against Minnesota MINNESOTA - David Dellucci hits 'em where they ain't. Minnesota certainly agrees as Texas' leftfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. His 1st hit was a RBI triple off Sean Gallagher in the 1st inning. A single in the 3rd off Sean Gallagher accounted for his 2nd hit. Number 3 in the 8th inning accounted for a double. A 412 foot drive to left-center marked his 4th hit, a two-run homerun off Jesse Carlson in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! David scored 2 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 4 hits in 9 at bats, resulting in a .444 batting average. He's now the 105th player in league history to hit for the cycle! On 10/18/2009, Jason Kendall was the last player to hit for the cycle. |
